1.) The Michigan Task Force has been hard at work, and in less than a year since being established, they have attended countless teleconferences with officials from CBMT and AMTA, surveyed music therapists in Michigan, and created a Music Therapy in Michigan Fact Sheet. Please download and take a look at this snapshot of our Mitten State MTs!
2.) What better way to celebrate Michigan Music Therapy Week than to send a letter to your local lawmakers? Download and fill out this Sample Letter, and then send to your Senator and/or Representative.

From the Lansing State Journal:
DeWitt residents Richard and Judy Winter, co-founders and co-chairs of the Michigan State University Community Music School’s Eric ‘RicStar’ Winter Music Therapy Camp, have received the Advocate of Music Therapy Award at the American Music Therapy Association Conference in Jacksonville, Fla.
The award honors a person (or people) who is not a music therapist but has contributed significantly to the field.
The Winters have worked tirelessly to grow RicStar’s Camp since it first launched in 2003 after the death of their son, Eric. RicStar’s Camp is a day camp that provides opportunities for musical expression, enjoyment, and interaction for all persons with special needs and their siblings.
The Winters volunteer each year at the music school and have worked to raise funds to support the camp and other music therapy programs. Judy Winters also is the author of “Breakthrough Parenting for Children with Special Needs: Raising the Bar of Expectations” and advocates for people with special needs.
The Winters were nominated by the Michigan Music Therapists executive board. Enrollment for RicStar’s Camp is now open to returning campers. New campers can register starting Saturday. For more information, visit www.cms.msu.edu or call 355-7661.

If you are a music therapist in Michigan, you should have received a survey from the Michigan Music Therapy Task Force several days ago. The task force is trying to get an accurate and up-to-date picture of how music therapy is currently provided in our state. This information will then be compiled into a state-specific fact sheet that we can share with state legislators and state agencies that oversee the programs where music therapists work.
Please respond to the survey by Sunday, November 3.
Thank you!
Congratulations!!!
