Michigan Music Therapists… who are we?

The purpose of Michigan Music Therapists (MMT) is to advance and support, on the state level, the goals of the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) and the Great Lakes Region (GLR) and to serve its members by striving to improve and advance the use of music in clinical, educational and
community settings for the betterment of the public health and welfare; serving to facilitate the advancement of education, clinical practice, research
and ethical standards in the music therapy profession in Michigan; and maintaining and improving an organizational structure for self-governance of the members of the music therapy profession in Michigan.

Music Therapy is…

The clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program.

Music therapy is an established health profession in which music is used within a therapeutic relationship to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals (American Music Therapy Association, 2021).

Our vision states that as stewards to our state, we strive with integrity to provide timely and relevant resources to support our members through education, service, and advocacy in Michigan.

Our mission is to advance and support the mission of AMTA (advance public awareness of the benefits of music therapy and increase access to quality music therapy services in a rapidly changing world) on the state level and to serve MMT members.
